You don't need a fancy gun and a lot of equipment to participate and be competitive. Glocks, M&Ps, and other duty pistols are very common. Add a holster, a few magazines, some ammo and you are good to go.

We recommend you do some online and in-person research. Come to a match and see what others are using and ask them about what they like and don't like about their gear.

A non-retention holster made out of Kydex works very well for competition use. Magazine pouches can also be Kydex or plastic.

For hearing protection the Howard Leight Impact electronic muffs are very popular and affordable. For best protection you can also wear foam earplugs underneath.

Wear weather appropriate outdoor clothing. In the summer, light colored wicking fabrics will keep you cooler. A brimmed hat is highly recommended, it will help keep the sun and stray hot shell casings away from your skin.
